This is the 2021 Lion of Mortimer 1oz Platinum Coin. The bullion coin is part of The Royal Mint's Queen's Beasts series.
Each coin contains one troy ounce of fine platinum and as pound sterling coins, they are exempt from capital gains tax.
This coin comes loose and you can add a 33mm capsule or gift box to your order in the basket.
Please note this coin is bullion standard and may have some slight bag and/or production marks.
Queen's Beasts
The Queen's Beasts are a series of ten statues that were created for Elizabeth II's coronation at Westmnister Abbey in 1953. They combine heraldic elements and mythical creatures which form a part of the Queen's royal ancestry. The Royal Mint launched their Queen's Beasts bullion range in 2016. The first coin featured a lion. Both the obverse and reverse of the coins were designed by Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark. The coins have a face value of £100.
Obverse
Jody Clark's coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of the coin.
Reverse
The reverse of the coin shows a lion holding a shield. Unlike the Lion of England coin, the Lion of Mortimer is shown without a crown.
The shield the lion is holding uses parts of the seals of Edward IV and Richard III. It shows a rose over the sun.
