This 4-coin sovereign set contains a double sovereign, (full) sovereign, half sovereign and a quarter sovereign. Each coin is struck from 0.9167 fine gold (22 carat). The set contains a total of .8828 troy ounces of the precious metal.
Proof sovereigns are produced to a much higher standard than the bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give them the very best finish. These gold proof sovereigns are issued in protective capsules and presented in a wooden presentation box, along with a numbered certificate of authenticity from the Royal Mint.
We have been stocking the new proof sovereign range every year since 2000. The information provided here is based on Privy Council notices, combined with over 20 years of experience. Once we receive embargoed information, we are constrained by what we can and cannot publish.
The British Royal Coat of Arms is unique to each monarch. It consists of a crest, motto and shield, with two 'supporters' on each side. Queen Elizabeth II's coat of arms features the quartered shield of the United Kingdom, surmounted by a royal crown. The motto reads "Dieu et mon droit", meaning "God on my right".
The shield dates back to the 1707 Act of Union and symbolises the alliance of the four Great British nations. The shield displays the three passant lions for England, the rampant lion for Scotland, the three lions for Wales and the golden harp for Northern Ireland. The supporters of the shield are a golden lion and a silver unicorn.
This special Royal Coat of Arms sovereign has been issued to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Elizabeth II ascended the British throne on 6th February 1952 after the sudden death of her father, King George VI. She was not officially crowned until 2nd June 1953.
In 2022 Queen Elizabeth will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee (70 years of service). She is the first British monarch to reach this milestone event.
The obverse of the coins show the fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The text reads:
“· ELIZABETH II ∙ DEI ∙ GRA · REGINA ∙ FID ∙ DEF”
Designed by Timothy Noad, the reverse of the coins feature an interpretation of the Royal Coat of Arms. The arms feature the quartered shield of the United Kingdom, surmounted by a royal crown, topped by a golden lion. The date appears at the bottom.
