These 2022 Dingo Mother and Baby 2 oz Silver Coins are issued by Australia's Perth Mint. The bullion coins are the fifth release in the Mother and Baby Coin Series.
The delightful coins feature a depiction of a mother dingo with her baby. The field is matt, whilst the relief part of the design is shiny. The coins have an issue limit of just 75,000.
These 2 ounce silver coins are struck from 99.99% fine silver. The coins have a piedfort (double thickness) style and have a depth of 6.02mm.
These coins are issued loose and supplied to us in tubes of 10. The tubes are topped up with a piece of sponge to protect the coins from rattling.
The dingo is an ancient lineage of dog found in Australia. Dingoes tend to be regarded as feral dogs because they are descended from domesticated ancestors. They are Australia's largest carnivorous mammal.
Dingo pups first venture from their underground den after approximately three weeks. Accompanied by their parents, they soon begin to explore further afield, learning how to navigate the unforgiving landscape.
They become less reliant on their mother's milk after about two months and generally venture off on their own permanently by the time they are six months old.
The obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was designed by Jody Clark. It shows the Australian coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth, which has been used on coins since 2018.
The text reads:
ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2 OZ 9999 AG 2022 2 DOLLARS
The reverse shows a mother dingo with her pup amid native Australian wildflowers. The dingo mother is keeping a watchful eye over her pup, with the pup looking up at her attentively.
The Perth Mint 'P' mint mark can be found on the left-hand side of the obverse, with the initials of the designer "AH" appearing below the mother. It was designed by Aleysha Howarth.
This coin has a authentication feature that hasnt been seen in many other coins. It features a micro-laser engraved letter which is detectable under a magnifying glass. This is designed to make it significantly more difficult for this coin to be counterfeited
