This 2022 10 oz Silver Proof Coin was issued by the Royal Mint to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

This 2022 10 oz Silver Proof Coin was issued by the Royal Mint to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The coin features two new designs from celebrated coinage artist, John Bergdahl. The obverse features the queen on horseback, whilst the reverse shows a rococo cartouche, reserved for the grandest coins.

Struck from 999 fine silver, this ten ounce silver coin has a mintage of just 156 coins, and a limited edition presentation of 150 coins.

Platinum Jubilee

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrates 70 years since she ascended the throne on 6th February 1952, although her coronation did not take place until June the following year.

Queen Elizabeth II is Britain's longest reigning monarch, after surpassing that of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria (63 years, 216 days), in 2015.

Her Majesty is also the 4th longest reigning monarch of all time, behind Louis XIV of France, Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) of Thailand, and Johann II of Liechtenstein.

Privy Council

We first heard about this coin after the Privy Council published information about it. The Privy Council is made up of senior politicians who advise the Queen on such matters as bank holidays, coinage and company statuses. The Royal Mint have to submit any new coin designs to The Privy Council for approval and that information is then announced on the Privy Council website.

Obverse

The obverse was designed by John Bergdahl. It shows Queen Elizabeth II on horseback, similar to the 1953 Coronation crown.

The design is surrounded by the Order of the Garter, “HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE”. The text reads:

2022 • ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F • D • 10 POUNDS

Reverse

Also designed by John Bergdahl, the reverse features the Royal Cypher, surrounded by a rococo cartouche. The floral emblems appear on either side of the design, with the dates “1952 – 2022” inside a scroll at the bottom.

The Star rating should be 5 stars

The Star rating is not just 4 stars but it should have been 5 stars that will not light up, I have spent a lot of time looking on the internet at gold prices most 1oz is mainly at current gold values. However sovereigns have different pricing up to a third more, yet I found Chards prices are very fair prices which I have bought 3 sovereigns this year.
