The first modern piedfort Sovereign was issued in 2017 to mark the 200th anniversary of the modern Sovereign. The mint has issued the piedfort coin annually since then.
The mint originally declared a mintage figure of 1,260 of the piedfort coins, with a limited edition presentation (LEP) of 1,250 coins. Prior to the release date of 17th July 2023, the mint announced they had reduced the LEP to just 950 coins, making this the lowest mintage piedfort sovereign to-date.

These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.
These coins are accompanied by a booklet detailing the coronation ceremony and the King's remarkable path to the throne.
Charles ascended the throne on 8 September 2022 after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. Charles is the oldest person to ascend to the British throne, at the age of 73.
The coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla was an event that captivated the attention of people throughout the UK and around the globe. The ceremony took place on May 6th, 2023, at Westminster Abbey in London.
After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September 2022, Martin Jennings sculpted and designed the new King Charles III definitive coinage portrait.
Jennings was born in 1957. He graduated from the University of Oxford in 1979, where he studied English Literature and Language. Afterwards, Jennings undertook a course in Lettering (1979-80).
The obverse of the coin features the crowned coinage portrait of HM King Charles III. It was designed by British sculptor, Martin Jennings.
