The 2023 Gold 1 oz Philharmonic Bullion Coin Tube - 10 Coins are issued by the Austrian Mint.
Thomas Pesendorfer, previously the chief engraver of the Austrian Mint, is responsible for the design of both the obverse and reverse of the coin.
Upon its initial release, the Austrian Philharmonic coin held a face value of 2000 schillings. Following Austria's adoption of the euro in 2002, the face value of this 1 oz gold coin was modified to 100 euros.
This unique bullion coin is the sole European bullion piece to bear a face value in euros and is recognised as legal tender exclusively in Austria.
The obverse features a depiction of 'The Great Organ of the Golden Hall' in Vienna. The coin reads:
REPUBLIK OSTERREICH 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9 2023 100 EURO
'Republik Osterreich' translates to 'Republic of Austria'.
The obverse of the Philharmonic coin showcases a variety of musical instruments that are iconic to Austria, such as the cello, Vienna horn, harp, and bassoon. The intricate designs are a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Austria, as well as the country's excellence in craftsmanship.
