New King Charles III Canadian Coinage Portrait

The 2024 maple coin release is the first in the maple bullion coin series to feature the new Canadian coinage portrait of King Charles III. This marks the inclusion of a reigning monarch on Canadian coinage after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who held the throne for seven decades.

Canada's new coin effigy was designed by Steven Rosati, who submitted it as part of an invitation competition. His design was chosen as the official Canadian coinage portrait for His Majesty King Charles III from among more than 350 talented engravers and artists who participated.

Maple Bullion Coins

The maple bullion coins, minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, feature the national plant emblem of Canada and are among the most recognisable bullion coins worldwide.

Gold maples are issued every year, with sizes usually ranging from 1 oz to 1/20 oz.

Obverse

The new obverse features King Charles III at the age of 75, facing left, and it was designed by Steven Rosati. Additionally, the inscription on this coin reads as follows:

CHARLES III 50 DOLLARS 2024

You can find Steven Rosati's initials, 'SR,' located on King Charles III's blazer, just below his collar.

Reverse

The reverse side showcases the iconic maple leaf, which is the national symbol of Canada. It also includes a smaller maple leaf engraving with a small '24' privy mark, signifying that this coin was issued in 2024.

Furthermore, the coin bears the following inscription:
