These Gold Proof Sovereigns are in Grade C condition, making them perfect for investors looking for proof coins at bullion prices.
Struck in 22 carat gold, these loose proof sovereigns are sold without capsules. The coins may have scuffs, red spots and marks on them, and are chosen from available stock at random. Proof sovereigns can be struck up to four times to achieve a high definition.
These coins are sold at a low premium above the spot gold price.
If you are looking for a specific year, we have a range of proof sovereigns available here that come with the original presentation box and certificate.
Proof sovereigns are issued by the Royal Mint. Originally issued in specimen sets, the proof sovereign was reintroduced in 1979 for coin collectors. The proof sovereign is minted using special hand polished dies which are closely monitored during production. You can tell the difference between modern proof sovereigns and uncirculated sovereigns by the difference in the finish. The proof coin has a shiny mirror-type background with the design picked out in a frosted finish. There is no difference in the finish on the uncirculated sovereign, it looks the same on both the design and the background.
Proof sovereigns are issued to a lower mintage than uncirculated sovereigns. The proof coin is usually sold at a higher premium than the uncirculated coin which is sold at a low premium above spot.
