These Pre-Owned 2023 Charles III Britannia 1 oz Silver Bullion Coins mark the first-ever inclusion of a King Charles III portrait on Britannia coins, engraved by Martin Jennings.
Please note: these bullion coins may contain scratches or have milk spots. This does not detract from the value of the coin.
The coins are the second 2023 bullion Britannia coin release, following the first which features the Queen Elizabeth II effigy, by Jody Clark.
These 1 oz Britannias are supplied loose. You can add an additional 39mm capsule or gift box to your order. The coins may have some slight bag and/or production marks, which is perfectly normal for bullion coins.
On the afternoon of 8th September, 2022, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, passed away at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in the presence of her family.
It was not until 10th September, 2022 that His Majesty King Charles III's formal proclamation of ascension to the throne was made, as the Accession Council convened at St James's Palace in London.
The Silver Britannia is a popular coin produced by the Royal Mint of the United Kingdom. The coin was first introduced in 1987 and is widely considered to be the UK's most popular Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exempt 1 oz silver coin. The face value of a 1 oz Silver Britannia is £2, although the coin's intrinsic value is significantly higher due to the value of the silver content. The coin's design features a depiction of Britannia, a female figure symbolising Britain.
The obverse of the coin is graced by the first coinage portrait of King Charles III, making it a unique and highly sought-after addition to any collection. The coin bears the following inscription:
CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 2 POUNDS ·
The 2023 Britannia coin collection boasts an iconic design, featuring the classic 'standing Britannia' motif by renowned artist Philip Nathan. These coins also incorporate the cutting-edge security features, first introduced in 2021.
One such feature is the small latent image on the bottom-left of the coin, which acts as a hologram, seamlessly transitioning between a trident and a padlock depending on the angle at which the coin is held. Additionally, a micro-text border encircling Britannia bears the inscription "DECUS ET TUTAMEN", translating to “an ornament and a safeguard”.
Moreover, the field of the coin now boasts surface animation, with micro-waves creating lines in the background, and tincture lines added to showcase the intricate play of colours and patterns on the metal.
