1806 Copper Penny George III

The first copper pennies were issued in 1797, and were produced by Matthew Boulton and James Watt at their Soho Birmingham works using steam powered coining presses.

The first copper pennies were issued in 1797, and were produced by Matthew Boulton and James Watt at their Soho Birmingham works using steam powered coining presses. These coins weighed one ounce, and contained their full intrinsic value of copper. They were so substantial that they soon became known as "cartwheel" pennies, twopences were also issued, and at two ounces each even better fit the cartwheel description.

The size and weight were reduced slightly for the next issues of 1806 and 1807, and copper pennies continued to be produced from 1825 during the reign of George IV, William IV, and Victoria, until 1860.

As of December 2019 we only have one in stock, the coin pictured and that is in VF condition. We may not change images as different stock comes in please check before ordering if you want the coin in the photograph.

These may have minor scratches or edge knocks, but this does not affect their value. Any coin sold for a value less than a 180% intrinsic is considered a bullion coin.
VAT:
Investment gold products are VAT-free, while silver products include VAT.
Cancellations & Returns:
Once you place an order, you cannot cancel it. We do not currently accept returns, however. You may be able to sell your investment products back to Chards at the current buy back rate.
