This 1989 Gold 1 Ounce Red Kangaroo Nugget Coin was minted by The Perth Mint in Australia. These coins were produced after the Perth Mint followed suite of the SA & Rand Refinery's Krugerrands; with their own coin, representing their Nation.

Red Kangaroos 

A male Red Kangaroo (Buck) can grow to 6 feet (1.8m)  tall whilst the females (Doe) typically grow 4-5 feet (1.22m-1.52m) tall. They can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour) and can cover 25 feet (7.6 meters) in a single leap!

Why is the Nugget popular?

The Gold Nugget coin series was first introduced in 1986 as a competitor to other Countries coins such as the Maple, Krugerrand and Britannia. The series originally had reverse designs of different gold nuggets discovered in Australia but changed to Kangaroos in 1989, with this coin being the first design of Kangaroo!

Obverse

The Obverse features the 3rd Portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael David Maklouf.

The inscription reads:

ELIZABETH II · AUSTRALIA · 100 DOLLARS

Reverse

The reverse of the coin features a Red Kangaroo by Stuart Devlin.

Inscribed we see:
