The 2004 Scottish Forth Bridge silver proof one pound is the first in a series of four national designs based on bridges. The Bridges collection was designed by Edwina Ellis to celebrate the excellence of British engineering.
Struck in 0.925 sterling silver fineness, this proof coin comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
The one pound coin is British legal tender and is exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
Since 1983, when the new pound coin was issued, the designs on the reverses of the pound coins have been changed in cycles of five years, one 'British' version, and four other designs each representing the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom.
The 2004 silver proof one pound coin with a reverse design by Edwina Ellis pays homage to Scotland. It features one of Scotland's most famous landmarks, the magnificent Forth Rail Bridge.
On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender. Read more about the pound coin in our blogs:
