The 2005 Menai Straits silver proof piedfort one pound coin represents Wales in a series of four coins designed by Edwina Ellis. The collection of four national bridges epitomises the engineering excellence for which Great Britain is renowned.
This British legal tender coin is struck in 0.925 silver fineness and comes in a presentation box with a certificate of authenticity.
The designs depict bridges from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Engraver Edwina Ellis, won a limited competition judged by the Royal Mint Advisory Committee. The collection of bridges will appear on £1 coins from 2004 to 2007. This coin is the second in the Bridges series.
British legal tender coins are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
On 28 March 2017, the circulated round pound was replaced by the 12 sided £1 coin. On the 15 October the round £1 coin will cease to be legal tender.

Why Did They Make 2016 12 Sided £1 Coins?
The obverse bears the fourth portrait of Elizabeth II by British sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley. His initials IRB appear under the truncated neck.
The reverse features an engraving of the Menai Strait Suspension Bridge in Wales by Edwina Ellis. Set within a border of railings the Grade 1 listed bridge which connects the mainland with Anglesey Island.
