2008 Gold 2 Ounce Kangaroo Nugget Coin
This coin was minted by The Perth Mint in Australia. These coins were produced after the Perth Mint followed suit of the SA & Rand Refinery's Krugerrands; with their own coin, representing their Nation.
The series originally had famous gold nuggets discovered in Australia originally on the reverse but switched to kangaroos in 1990. The 2 oz bullion coin's all have the Red Kangaroo on the reverse, the 2 oz bullion coin were minted from 1991-2009.
The Reverse design depicts a Red Kangaroo, the largest kangaroo native to Australia. They are known for their incredible jumping ability and speed.
The 2008 2 oz Red Kangaroo Nugget Coin had a mintage of 3,671!
This coin is in bullion condition and comes in a capsule.
A male Red Kangaroo (Buck) can grow to 6 feet (1.8m) tall whilst the females (Doe) typically grow 4-5 feet (1.22m-1.52m) tall. They can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour) and can cover 25 feet (7.6 meters) in a single leap!
The Gold Nugget coin series was first introduced in 1986 as a competitor to other Countries coins such as the Maple, Krugerrand and Britannia.
The design was one of the first bullion coins to include a '2 tone' frosted effect. This meant that the foreground of the coin was almost matte, and the monarch/nugget had an almost mirror effect. Making way for a new technique within the Bullion game.
The fourth portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II was designed by Ian Rank-Broadley and is featured on this obverse. The coin bears an inscription that reads as:
ELIZABETH II· AUSTRALIA · 200 DOLLARS
The reverse of the coin features a Red Kangaroo by Stuart Devlin.
