The coin has a substantial weight of 19.619gms, which is almost three times the weight of a sovereign. Struck in 22 carat gold, each coin is accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to the worldwide issue limit of just 1,000, which is signed by the Deputy Master of the Royal Mint.
The 2011 Edinburgh £1 coin is the third coin in a four coin series of British cities by Stuart Devlin. The British legal tender coin was issued as a circulation coin as well as collectable coins in Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Gold Proof finishes. These coins are highly collectable by both numismatists and investors as they are interesting coins which are exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
The £1 coin was introduced in 1983 and was issued as a round one pound coin until 2016. A twelve sided one pound coin was introduced on 28 March 2017 to replace the round pound and is said to be the most secure coin in the world.
