This 2017 £2 coin commemorates the work of renowned author, Jane Austen. Issued in 2017, this coincides with the 200th anniversary of her death. This 2017 Jane Austen £2 brilliant uncirculated coin comes in a colourful presentation folder.
Jane Austen was born on 16 December, 1775, in Steventon Rectory, Hampshire. This British novelist is famous for writing about the British gentry and their whims and foibles. During this period women were encouraged to marry well to provide security for their future. Jane Austen's best known works include Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and Emma, these novels are still as popular today.
The packaging of the coin features oak leaves which were worn by Jane Austen on her pelisse coat.

Jody Clark's fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of the £2 coin.
The inspiration behind the design was the Regency-era as well as the Jane Austen portrait held at London's National Portrait Gallery.
The reverse was designed by the Royal Mint designer, Dominique Evans. It is her first circulating coin design.
