This 2018 £5 coin celebrates the Sapphire Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is struck to a proof finish from 22ct gold.

Elizabeth II became the Queen on 6th February, 1952. She was not officially crowned until 2nd June, 1953.

Obverse

The fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of the coin. This was designed by Jody Clark.

Reverse

The reverse of the coin was designed by Timothy Noad. The heraldic design combined the initials of Elizabeth, Charles, William and George.

The design takes elements from the House of Windsor Royal Badge, such as the oak branches and the coronet. Prince George will not have his own coat of arms or coronet until he is 18.
