Little John is one of Robin Hood's 'Merry Men' and considered his second in command. Contrary to his name, Little John is thought to have been a giant man with a supposed height of 7 foot tall, with a warrior like build.
Robin Hood has been a part of British folklore since the 13th century. The legend of the skilled archer who was known to steal from the rich to give to the poor has been passed down through generations.
Hood's accomplices, the 'Merry Men' included Little John, Will Scarlett, Friar Tuck, Much and Maid Marian. They were said to have lived together in Sherwood Forest, near Nottingham.
Robin Hood has been portrayed in numerous books, television series and over 100 films. Depictions of him have varied over time, with him being shows as a peasant or a nobleman.
The obverse showcases the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, accompanied by the inscription:
· ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 100 POUNDS
The reverse presents a depiction of Little John holding his staff in front of Sherwood Forest, accompanied by the inscription:
