These King Charles III sovereigns commemorate the coronation of the king. They feature the crowned portrait.
These Queen Elizabeth II memorial sovereigns commemorate the reign of the late queen. The obverse bears the uncrowned portrait of King Charles III.
These proof coins are struck to a much higher standard than bullion coins. The blanks are struck up to 6 times each in order to give the coins the very best finish.
After the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on 8th September 2022, Martin Jennings sculpted and designed the new King Charles III definitive coinage portrait.
Jennings was born in 1957. He graduated from the University of Oxford in 1979, where he studied English Literature and Language. Afterwards, Jennings undertook a course in Lettering (1979-80).
Each coin in this 10-coin bundle features two obverse designs.
The KCIII Coronation sovereigns showcase the crowned portrait of King Charles III, engraved by Martin Jennings.
The QEII Memorial sovereigns show the uncrowned portrait of King Charles III, crafted by Martin Jennings.
Both coins bear the text:
CHARLES III ∙ DEI ∙ GRA · REX ∙ FID ∙ DEF ·
This 10-coin bundle showcases two reverse designs.
The KCIII Coronation sovereigns feature a depiction of St George slaying the dragon. This was designed by Benedetto Pistrucci and has appeared on the reverse of most sovereigns (with few exceptions) since 1817.
The QEII memorial design, created by artist Jody Clark, showcases a new portrayal of the Royal Coat of Arms on the reverse. This intricately crafted design serves as a respectful homage to the late monarch. It notably differs from Timothy Noad's version, which was featured on on the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee edition of the 2022 proof sovereign.
