What Is Capital Gains Tax?

Capital Gains Tax (CGT) is a form of levies imposed on the profit garnered from the sale of assets, such as real estate, investments, and collectibles. In the United Kingdom, the present CGT allowance is per annum per individual, which implies that one can earn up to from the sale of assets prior to being subject to CGT.

Gold Britannias

Gold bullion Britannia coins are the UK's most popular CGT exempt 1oz gold coins. Britannias were introduced by The Royal Mint in 1987. These British gold bullion coins have a face value of £100.

Between 1987 - 2012, the coins were struck in 22 carat gold (0.9167 fineness); from 2013 onwards, the coins have been struck in 24 carat gold (0.9999 fineness). The coins all contain one troy ounce of gold, whether they are struck in 22 carat gold or 24 carat gold.

History of the Gold Sovereigns

The English sovereign was first issued as a gold hammered coin in 1489 for the King Henry VII. Designed by German engraver, Alexander of Bruchsal, the obverse featured the King in his coronation robes seated upon his throne, symbolising the power, success and splendour of the fledgling Tudor dynasty.

Although the first British gold sovereign was issued in 1489 for Henry VII, the modern gold sovereign was first struck in 1817 under George III. Today, the vast majority of British gold sovereigns showcase Benedetto Pistrucci's St George and the dragon design on the reverse, paired with various monarchs over time.

Notably, following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, His Majesty King Charles III now graces the obverse of the sovereigns, including the 2022 memorial sovereigns, the 2023 Coronation sovereigns, and the new 2024 sovereign range.

Obverse

Included in this gold investment bullion bundle, the obverse of the coins may showcase any coinage portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, or the uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III. It's worth noting that you might receive multiple coins with the same portraits, and the years chosen for the gold investment bullion bundle are random.

Reverse

The reverse of the coins in this bundle will vary, but they are likely to include the iconic St. George and the Dragon sovereign design, as well as the depiction of Lady Britannia on the Britannia gold bullion coins.
