This 2017 Jane Austen Silver Proof £2 coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the death of this renowned British author, Jane Austen. Struck in sterling silver, this beautiful commemorative coin comes in a presentation box with a certificate. Limited mintage of 5,000.

Jane Austen was born in 1775, in Steventon, Hampshire. In her early years, Austen wrote poems and stories for her family. Before the age of 20, Austen began writing her first novel. Her best known works include Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, Mansfield Park and Emma. Three of her novels were published posthumously.
The packaging of the coin features oak leaves, worn by Jane Austen on her Pelisse coat. The coin in a capsule and is housed inside a black display box. It is accompanied by a colourful booklet featuring information about Austen and her life.

The fifth coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse. It was designed by Jody Clark.
The design of the coin was inspired by the Regency-era as well as the Jane Austen portrait held at London's National Portrait Gallery.
It was designed by the Royal Mint designer Dominique Evans and the design itself has been approved by Professor John Mullan, a leading Jane Austen academic.
