In Arthurian lore, Morgan Le Fay emerges as a multifaceted character, frequently depicted as King Arthur's half-sister and a formidable sorceress. Her reputation is defined by her mystical abilities, both beneficial and malicious. She played various roles in different stories, sometimes as an antagonist and sometimes as a healer or protector.
The fate of Morgan Le Fay in Arthurian legend varies across texts. In some versions, she remains a powerful figure, while in others, she becomes an exile or is trapped in a nunnery. Her fate is often ambiguous, reflecting the evolving nature of her character within the diverse narratives of the Arthurian legend.
Myths and Legends is a series of gold and silver bullion coins, issued by the Royal Mint. It features some of the most legendary mythical characters.
The obverse of the coin, created by Martin Jennings, features an uncrowned portrait of HM King Charles III facing to the left. It includes a legend that reads:
CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 100 POUNDS ·
This reverse design, depicting Morgan Le Fay, the evil enchantress and half-sister of King Arthur, was created by David Lawrence and captures her in a battle pose. She has long braided hair, a mystical third eye, and wears a dragon-winged headband. Additionally, Morgan carries her Damascus magical steel dagger holstered and has a snake bracelet on her right wrist.
The inscription of the reverse reads as:
