Hundreds of Ancient Gold Coins Found In Israel
Synopsis
Members of a voluntary youth group unearthed hundreds of gold coins that had remained undisturbed for over a thousand years, dating back to the 9th century.

The haul of 425 gold coins, are thought to have lay within a clay jar buried for 1,100 years, potentially making them a piece of the Abbasid caliphate and early Islam; soley being distrubed after excavation started for the building of new property.
Each of the gold coins weighs in at 845g, with a smaller collection of 270 gold cuttings also being revealed alongside the substantial purse. A find that comes during a time where the yellow precious metal is experiencing record prices, peaking at an all time high of £2,000 before experiencing the largest day drop since 2013.
Oz Cohen, the youth that discovered the ancient hoard described the lifechanging find as “amazing”, going on to say “I dug in the ground and when I excavated the soil, saw what looked like very thin leaves. When II looked again I saw these were going coins.”
Claiming the coins original owners had secured the vessel with a nail so that it would not move”, Directors of the excavation, Liat Nadav-Ziv and Elie-Haddad described the find as “extremely rare... certainly in such a considerable quantity.”
